Plot/Synopsis: Vanishing on 7th Street is a post-apocalyptic horror-thriller film directed by Brad Anderson and starring Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo.
A mysterious, seemingly global blackout causes most of the people on earth to simply vanish into thin air, leaving only their clothes and possessions behind. Shadows take on lives of their own, being able to speak to and follow their targets. As more and more people disappear, so does sunlight; with days growing significantly shorter, forcing a small handful of survivors to band together in an abandoned, dimly-lit bar on Detroit, Michigan's 7th Street, struggling to combat the apocalyptic threat. News reports around the world reveal this mystery is occurring on a worldwide scale. Realizing they may in fact be the last people on Earth, the darkness begins to hone in on them alone. As the situation worsens, they know one thing for sure, that only the diminishing light sources can keep them safe. As the lights fail, all the characters start vanishing one by one. During the trailer the word "Croatoan" can be seen, evoking the lost colony of Roanoke.
Luke (Hayden Christensen) is a TV News Anchor. He wakes up one morning and realizes that none of his electronics work. After walking down several flights of stairs to the building's lobby, he discovers that everyone has disappeared. He sees many images of the destruction around him, including a pilot-less Airplane crashing into the ground. Luke rushes to his TV Station, to find his missing girlfriend.
The film unexpectedly flashes forward 3 days, where Luke is now wearing a rain coat covered in lights. After a brief run in with another man on the street, he finds the bar and enters. A kid comes up from the basement with a shotgun. An emergency television broadcast reveals that the darkness is everywhere and people are vanishing in the darkness Worldwide. They also find out they can only trust the lights that they have, as whatever is in the darkness can create lights as bait to lure them in. At this point, Rosemary (Thandie Newton) comes into the bar screaming about her missing child. Later still, They hear Paul (John Leguizamo) crying in pain from underneath an illuminated bus stop bench. Luke leaves the safety of the bar to save him.
They gather in the bar, and try to work on the generator which provides them with lights and power. Paul tells them all the story of Roanoke. Paul passes out due to an earlier head injury. Luke says he's going to go grab a truck down the road and haul them across the border. Luke and Rosemary leave. The kid, James (Jacob Latimore), then comes out of the bathroom and realizes the darkness has taken Paul.
Luke and Rosemary find the truck, but realize they can't move it. Luke chases a little girl away, wanting her flashlight, but Rosemary takes him to a nearby clinic. She starts lighting matches. She hears a baby crying, goes to it, and the darkness takes her. Luke takes the truck back to the bar. He and James drive to the church. James thinks his mother is inside, but Luke drives away. James is chased by the darkness, Luke turns back to get James. Luke crashes into the church , and the darkness takes him. James sleeps in the church with a candle, wakes up in the morning to see the girl Luke chased. They take a horse and ride away. The sun goes down. And as the sun goes down the shadows of Luke, Rosemary, and Paul are shown on a wall.
